BELGRADE - Senior Programme Manager from NATO Political Affairs and Security Policy Division Ms. Frédérique Jacquemin visited Belgrade from September 3–5, 2018.
In her efforts to promote cooperation in education through the Defence Education Enhancement Programme (DEEP) she met with Aleksandar Zivkovic, State Secretary at the Serbian Ministry of Defence, Major General Professor Dr. Mladen Vuruna, the Rector of the University of Defence and Lieutenant General Djokica Petrovic, the Commander of the Training Command.
The purpose of these meetings was to reinstate the DEEP programme in Serbia. During her visit, Ms. Jacquemin was accompanied by her academic advisor for the Balkans, Dr. Heinz Vetschera, a retired Brigadier General.
As Serbia conducts its DEEP activities mainly with regard to faculty development there might be more opportunities to extend its role as a defence education provider towards other DEEP partner countries. DEEP is a vehicle for reform, providing tailored practical support to individual countries in the development and reform of their professional military education institutions.
Through faculty development, curriculum development and peer-to-peer consultations, the DEEP Programme fosters defence capacity building, cooperative capability development and standardisation, and promotes interoperability of processes and methodologies to enhance democratic institutions.
