Dec 11, 2014
PRISTINA, Kosovo, on the 10th December 2014, KFOR Commander, Major General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, had a meeting with H.E. Anick Van Calster, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium in Sofia, at the NATO KFOR Headquarters.
During the meeting they spoke about the overall situation in Kosovo and the efficient cooperation that exists between KFOR, the International community and the local Institutions. This meeting follows similar ones held by the KFOR Commander for a comprehensive approach to the overall Kosovo situation.
The discussion was focused on the importance of continued dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade which had ceased during the recent political impasse. Continued improvement of this relationship will ensure further stability in the Balkan regions.
Belgian Armed Forces were present in Kosovo since 1999 when the first Belgian troops were deployed as part of the NATO mission. The Belgian presence has declined gradually over the years, however more than 15,000 troops were deployed during here before they were withdrawn in the early part of 2010.
