NATO Mission Iraq Webinar on Joint Cooperation

BAGHDAD – NATO Mission Iraq (NMI) held its first webinar on Wednesday, Apr. 7, 2021 to strengthen working relationships between the Iraqi Strategic Studies and Research Centre (SSRC) and allied defence colleges.

This webinar was a step forward in common efforts to steer and promote security and stability research efforts between Iraq and NATO academic institutions

The aim of the webinar was to debate potential areas for joint research and provide a foundation for promoting cooperation between the SSRC and military academic institutions within NATO; which include the Centre for Stabilisation from the Royal Danish Defence College (RDDC) and the Czech Centre for Security and Military Strategic Studies. The expectation is that these webinars will enhance further development of academic research cooperation between the SSRC and the Centre for Stabilisation from the RDDC.

The webinar had two overall sessions, one focusing on terrorism and its influence on national sovereignty and external relations and one on internal and external threats and challenges to Iraqi security. Each session of the webinar was moderated with speakers from SSRC and Allied defence colleges.

“This webinar was a step forward in common efforts to steer and promote security and stability research efforts between Iraq and NATO academic institutions,” said Commander Jens Hansen from NMI’s Professional Security Education Division.

In January 2021, through regular weekly engagements between the SSRC, the RDDC and the Czech Centre for Security and Military Strategic Studies, it was agreed to pursue areas of common interest and establish international academic cooperation between the research centres to support academic learning and research in order to contribute to institutional reform through military cooperation between NATO’s members defence colleges.
