BAGHDAD - The Dean of the Language Institute at the Defence University in Baghdad, Major General Mohamed Ziyad Mohamed, received a delegation from NATO Mission Iraq (NMI) on Monday, Apr. 5, 2021.
The Major General briefed the delegation on the nature of the workflow and the teaching methods inside the language institute as well as course curriculum. The Defence University and NMI have a cooperation relationship.

Teams then proceeded to assist with Social Monday. This is a weekly event at the Iraq Defence Languages Institute (DLI). On Social Monday, NMI personnel provide an interactive presentation on a topic of their choice to students studying English, German or Turkish. The presentations encourage students to have a conversation on a range of topics and practice their foreign language skills with the NMI presenters.

NMI teams from Croatia, Germany, the Netherlands and Turkey were well received by the classes and students were eager to practice their language skills. “This was a true example of sharing knowledge and learning from one another. NMI and Iraqis are stronger together,” said Martin den Hartog from the Netherlands, NMI liaison to the Defence Language Institute.
Social Monday is a great opportunity for both DLI and NMI to interact. It has been a rewarding experience for numerous individuals from many different NATO nations. It is an opportunity for the members to share knowledge with Iraqi students, present information on their own countries, and to learn about Iraqi history and the cradle of the civilisation first hand.
