Italian Army Lieutenant General Rodolfo Sganga, Chief of Staff of JFC Naples, joined Admiral Munsch in greeting Major General Di Stasio, who assumed command of COMFOPSUD on 20 March 2025, succeeding Lieutenant General Angelo Michele Ristuccia.
Established in October 2016, COMFOPSUD operates as a multifunctional Army Corps-level command with authority over both operational and territorial components across Central and Southern Italy and the islands. Its operational arm comprises five multi-arms brigades named Granatieri di Sardegna, Aosta, Pinerolo, Sassari, and Garibaldi. Each brigade is tasked with preparing forces for domestic and overseas missions.
The command’s territorial element, headquartered at the Calò Barracks in Naples, manages administrative functions including recruitment, accommodation, and force documentation. It oversees territorial commands in Puglia, Basilicata, Calabria, and Sicily.
COMFOPSUD is also responsible for Operation “Safe Roads/Land of Fires,” coordinating regional military support across Lazio, Abruzzo, Campania, Puglia, Calabria, Sicily, and Sardinia. The command plays a key role in civil support operations during public emergencies in accordance with its institutional mandate.
