UNIVERSITY OF NAPLES “L’ORIENTALE” VISITS JFC NAPLES

NAPLES, Italy- A delegation of Ph.D. candidates in International Studies and Professors of the University of Naples “L’Orientale”, Department of Human and Social Science (DSUS), visited Allied Joint Force Command Naples on June 20th, 2024.

The delegation received a warm welcome from Lt. Gen. Vasco Angelotti, Chief of Staff at JFC Naples, who provided an overview on the vision and mission of NATO and JFC Naples in the framework of Transatlantic security and in light of the current strategic context structure.

Briefers from JFC Naples discussed different topics such as the JFC Naples political perspective of the situation in Eastern Europe and Russia; the Critical Infrastructure Protection; the growing role of info warfare, a key hybrid level of influence, impacting the cognitive sphere; the new challenges in Africa, from the Radicalization to the climate challenges; the NATO International Civilians and professional opportunities within the Organization.

A Questions and answers session with the General and the briefers concluded the morning session.

“I am honored to have you here,” said Lt.Gen. Angelotti. “And I hope to establish with the University of Naples L’Orientale a good and permanent relationship,” he concluded.

“I’d like to express my thanks and my sincere compliments to the General and to all the stakeholders who organized this visit and made it a real success,” said Giuseppe Cataldi, Full Professor in International Law”. “We are here today not to talk about war but to understand how you manage this current crisis and live in this complexity,” he continued. “We are very grateful to NATO to be still alive and continues to manage this difficult geopolitical situation,” he concluded.

The University of Naples "L'Orientale" is a university located in Naples, Italy. Founded in 1732 by Matteo Ripa, an Italian priest, is the oldest school of Sinology (also referred as China studies) and Oriental Studies of the European continent. It is organized in three departments - Asia, Africa and Mediterranean, and Human and Social Science - and is the main university in Italy specializing in the study of non-European languages and cultures, with research and studies agreements with universities all over the world. It is one of the top universities in the world regarding Asian cultures and languages.

The Dean of the University of Naples "L’Orientale" is Prof. Roberto Tottoli and currently 11,164 students are enrolled.

The visit of the University of Naples L’Orientale is part of the Public Affairs Community Relations Program to establish and strengthen the relationship with the external community in line with the #WEARENATO campaign.
