PORTSMOUTH, United Kingdom – HMS Collingwood Open Day, United Kingdom welcomed thousands of visitors, including servicemen and women, veterans, and the general public. It offers a unique glimpse into the operations and traditions of the Royal Navy, complete with demonstrations, displays, and activities suitable for all ages.

Central to the excitement is the RNRMC Field Gun Competition, a traditional and fiercely contested event that showcases the skill, strength, and teamwork of military personnel and our JFC Naples Crew. Teams from 18 various units competed in a thrilling display of precision and endurance, racing to dismantle, transport, and reassemble a field gun in the fastest time. This competition not only honours the historic roots of the Royal Navy, with its roots tracing back to the heroic efforts of the British Naval Brigade during the Boer War. The event, rich in history and tradition, has evolved into a rigorous test of teamwork, strength, and precision.but also emphasises the values of camaraderie and resilience that are integral to military life.

JFC Naples’ diverse team, consisting of 18 members from five nations – Canada, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States –epitomizes the spirit of collaboration and mutual support that has defined NATO for 75 years.

A Diverse Team Reflecting NATO’s Legacy

As NATO marks its 75th anniversary, the JFC Naples crew embodies the alliance’s enduring commitment to unity and shared purpose. This team, representing five NATO member nations, showcases the strength that comes from diverse perspectives working together. Each member brings unique skills and experiences, contributing to a harmonious and effective unit.

Canada: With their reputation for resilience and a strong work ethic, Canadian members provide a stabilizing presence and unwavering determination.

Germany: Known for their discipline and technical acumen, German team members ensure meticulous execution of tasks.

Spain: Spanish members infuse the team with enthusiasm and relentless energy, essential for meeting the competition's demands.

United Kingdom: The UK contingent offers deep-rooted local knowledge and a historical connection to the event’s origins.

United States: Bringing versatility and leadership, the American crew members guide the team with innovation and strategic vision.

The journey to HMS Collingwood has been marked by intense training sessions. Under the guidance of experienced coaches, the JFC Naples crew has honed their skills through grueling drills that test both physical strength and mental resilience. Each practice reinforces their ability to work seamlessly as a unit, mastering complex maneuvers such as the "limber run" and the precise reassembly of the gun as demonstrated at the JFC Naples Public Field Gun run.

The training regime not only prepares them for the competition but also strengthens the bonds of friendship and mutual respect among the crew. This unity is a microcosm of NATO's broader mission: fostering strong alliances and promoting peace through collective effort.

The Field Gun competition offers a unique opportunity to showcase these values in action. It highlights how, even in a demanding and competitive environment, individuals from different backgrounds can unite to achieve a shared goal. This spirit of collaboration is at the heart of NATO’s mission and is vividly reflected in the dedication and teamwork of the JFC Naples crew.
