JFC Naples Successfully Concludes REGEX 24 in Moldova

CHIȘINĂU, Moldova - JFC Naples’ 4th and final Regional Collective Training Event Planning Workshop in support of the Regional Exercise (REGEX) 24, took place from 8-19 July, in Chișinău, Moldova at the Agency for Science and Military Memory.

The REGEX 24 distinguished visitors day on 18 July, celebrating the culmination and the conclusion of REGEX 24, was attended by the Moldovan Armed Forces Chief of Defence, Brigadier General Eduard Ohladciuc, the Deputy Chief of National Army General Staff, Brigadier General Sergiu Cirimpei, JFCNP ACOS J9 Brigadier General Dieter Kohl and the Head of the NATO Liaison Office in Chisinau, Mrs. Michaela Šimáková.  Also in attendance were Defence representatives from Czechia, France, Lithuania, Romania, Poland, United Kingdom, and the United States.

Each senior leader addressed the participants with gratitude for their achievements, for enhancing their knowledge of the NATO Exercise Planning Process, and for the successful completion of the exercise framework consisting of four intensive workshops across 2024.

The representatives of the Moldovan National Army’s General Staff ensured a well-planned and executed multinational training.

During the closing ceremony Brigadier General Dieter Kohl appreciated the good organisation and conduct of the REGEX-2024 exercise, also emphasising the interoperability, professionalism and joint effort of the participants. “This exercise represents the promotion of professional development not only in exercise planning procedures, but also in building trust and cultural awareness to achieve interoperability in peacekeeping operations. The representatives of the Moldovan National Army’s General Staff ensured a well-planned and executed multinational training.”

REGEX 24 concluded in a simulated execution and EXCON training with a Moldovan Composite Brigade Headquarters serving as Primary Target Audience utilising a Peace Support Operation scenario. A training team from Allied Joint Force Command Naples mentored 29 partner participants from 14 Partner Nations and an International Organisations: Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Georgia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Malta, Morocco, Moldova, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and the African Union.  The partners worked alongside 27 officers from the host nation, Moldova.

The REGEX program is a NATO-supported opportunity for Partner Nations to plan and conduct an exercise from beginning to end, while meeting their own unique training requirements. It involves a designated Partner Nation acting as host, inviting all other NATO Partners to participate in the planning and execution of a national exercise, while NATO provides support to the exercise planning process.

The nation of Moldova graciously offered to serve as the host nation for REGEX 24, adding to the robust list of previous host nations including, Bosnia and Herzegovina (REGEX 16), Jordan (REGEX 17), Serbia (REGEX 18), North Macedonia (REGEX 19), Morocco (REGEX 22) and Qatar (REGEX 23).  As a steadfast participant in previous REGEX editions, Moldova was a natural choice to host the most recent iteration of the REGEX initiative.  Both the hospitality and cultural richness of Moldova left deep and lasting impressions on all participants.
