STUDENTS AND TEACHERS FROM MIDDLE SCHOOL GOT A TASTE OF NATO LIFE

NAPLES, Italy – Students and teachers from "Ernesto Borrelli”, Santa Maria la Carità, Naples got a taste of NATO life during a visit to Allied Joint Force Command Naples February 1, 2023.

After a three-year hiatus due to the COVID19 pandemic, the Community Relations Program re-started again at Allied Joint Forces Command Naples (JFC Naples).

Students and teachers from Middle School “Ernesto Borrelli” located in Santa Maria la Carità, Naples, visited the JFC Naples facility on Feb 1, 2023.

Lieutenant General Vasco Angelotti, the JFC Naples Chief of Staff, addressed the participants with welcoming remarks.


Today’s visit made me very proud and enthusiastic” said General Angelotti. “My compliments go to all the students who have joined in this opportunity to further their already excellent education facilitated by their teachers

Avv. Giosuè D’Amora, Mayor of Santa Maria la Carità, attended the event. After his thanks to the general for this opportunity, he said. “Today’s visit has been very precious to me and to the school of my municipality”.

“One moral this visit teaches us is that respect is a great value and that also values like a good behavior and a polite manners should never be underestimated”, he concluded.

The school’s students and teachers were given a historical overview of NATO and JFC Naples, the Joint Operations Centre’s activities, the conflict in Ukraine, the role of the NATO international civilians, the importance of communication and cyber security.

At the end of the presentations, students and teachers participated in a questions and answers session with the general and the briefers.

“I have to express my compliments to the general and the briefers”, the Vice-Principal Anna Manfredonia said. “They were able to keep the attention of the students and spoke about war without excluding the peace”.

“For once, the students asked questions instead of being questioned”, she concluded.

“I am impressed by seeing so many different nationalities in the headquarters; all of these people from so many countries working together”, said Benedetta Abagnale, 8th grade student. “I did not know about this command before but now I have a better understanding of its activities and, though being a military command, it is a defensive alliance to achieve the collective security”.

“The presentation I liked most was the one on cyber security”, said 8th grade student Ciro Emilio Di Martino. “I understand the importance of how to protect ourselves and to be aware of any possible cyber-attack”.

The students also had a chance to visit the Community Center and its facilities.

The school visits are part of a community relations campaign designed to establish strong cultural and social links with civic society and to strengthen the relationship with local and regional institutions.
