Joint Force Command Naples, Italy - Joint Force Command Naples hosted military delegations from Algeria and Mauritania on 28 and 30 of November 2023 for separate Expert Staff Meetings (ESM). The NATO delegation included representatives from the International Staff, the International Military Staff, SHAPE Partnership Directorate, AIRCOM, JFC Naples and NSD-S HUB, as well as VTC attendance from LANDCOM and MARCOM.
Brigadier General Dieter KOHL, JFC Naples Assistant Chief Of Staff J9, welcomed the delegations and emphasized the opportunities of Partnership Activities to build Trust, Confidence and ensure Cultural Awareness.
Expert Staff Meetings are annual meetings between NATO stakeholders and some strategic partner nations, aimed at reviewing military cooperation goals and objectives, providing information exchange, developing greater synchronized collaboration, and facilitating understanding.
The Armed Forces of Algeria and Mauritania each have Individual Partnership Cooperation Programmes (IPCP) in place with NATO, which are routinely managed by JFC Naples for NATO in accordance with the Military Committee Direction and Guidance for each. Both of these Strategic Partnership documents serve as the foundation for each country’s military partnership with NATO giving clear direction and priorities. Individually Tailored Partnership Programmes (ITPP) will replace the IPCP in 2024.
Both of these Expert Staff Meetings have once again taken place in a frank and open atmosphere with both delegations discussing shared ambitions, and consolidated progress to-date, demonstrating the value of these important Partnership events.
