JFC Naples Chief of Staff and SMEs connect with the University of Naples Federico II

NAPLES, Italy – Italian Army Lieutenant General Vasco Angelotti, who serves as the Chief of Staff for the Allied Joint Force Command Naples (JFC Naples) together with a delegation of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs*) delivered lectures to the students of Prof. Daniela La Foresta, Full Professor of Geopolitical Economy of the Department of Political Science, University of Naples “Federico II” on December 5th, 2023.

It is an honor to be here today and I am very much impressed by the concepts of “flexibility, adaptability and resilience” mentioned by Prof. La Foresta during her opening remarks, because it is exactly what I’m going to emphasize during my presentation

The seminar titled "NATO: Thoughts on the current strategic context” was opened by Prof. Vittorio Amato, Director of the Department of Political Science who addressed to the participants his warm welcome remarks, emphasizing the strong relationship that has been established between JFC Naples and the University of Naples “Federico II”.

Allied Joint Force Command Naples Chief of Staff and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) delivered  lectures to the students of Prof. Daniela La Foresta Full Professor of Geopolitical Economy, Department of Political Science,  University of Naples,  Federico II Nov 5.

"I thank the General and the stakeholders who have greatly satisfied my request in a very short time,” La Foresta said. “This is an evidence of NATO’s flexibility, adaptability and resilience. These are the key points for the duration of NATO as a military and political alliance”.

La Foresta's appreciation for the prompt response from the General and his team underscored her belief in NATO's ability to swiftly adapt to evolving circumstances.

“In the strategic concept have converged new actors and the scenarios have considerably changed. NATO must adapt itself to the change of the maritime, space control and cyber domains,” said La Foresta. “I hope that NATO will face the future challenges with great success and that all the fixed goals will be achieved” she concluded.

Lieutenant General Angelotti offered insights into NATO and JFC Naples' history, covering 75 years of growth, transformation, and the implementation of NATO's new Strategic Concept highlighting NATO's ability to go through the years facing the threats that have occurred over the years and how the concepts of defense and deterrence has accompanied the Alliance since its birth in 1949 up to the present days. The SME’s presentations, tailored to the students' geopolitical economy studies, covered various topics including information warfare, regional dynamics in the Middle East and Africa, roles of NATO international civilians, career prospects, and defense strategies against cyberattacks.

Lieutenant General Angelotti, in his concluding remarks, emphasized the significance of JFC Naples' longstanding partnership with the University of Naples Federico II, and the importance of concepts like flexibility and resilience.

Following the presentations, Lieutenant General Angelotti engaged in a questions and answer session with the students.

This event is an example of NATO’s efforts to establish positive cultural and social exchanges with the external community and to strengthen the relationship with local and regional institutions.
