Chisinau, Moldova – Joint Forces Command Naples and NATO HQ, in close collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from the Peace Support Operations Training Centre (PSOTC Sarajevo) led a "virtual" mobile training event on NATO Building Integrity in Peace Support Operations in Chisinau, Moldova, on 11-13 Jan, 2022.

The training event was conducted in a "hybrid" format to face the current pandemic situation: the participants from the MDA MoD premises and the trainers/SMEs from their respective HQs.

The main focus of this training event has been the understanding of Building Integrity (BI) principles in particular during Peace Support Operations and NATO-led Operations

In particular, building up on the 2019 successful iteration, the training addressed the subject at the tactical level, to complement the pre-deployment training package for the contingent of Moldovan Armed Forces designated to international Peace Keeping Operation (PKO)

The Team of three Staff Officer from JFC Naples, one from NATO HQ IS and two from PSOTC Sarajevo trained the 46 Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) and Sergeants from Moldova's Armed Forces who attended the event.

The NATO BI programme perspective and reference documents were the pillars for the follow up lectures aimed at underlining the importance of codes of conduct, standards of conduct and professionalism in armed forces. These principles and values in combination with the individual perception of corruption and integrity stimulated peer to peer discussions and exchange of points of view on misconduct and consequences of misconduct.

The syndicates' practical sessions, developed by the PSOTC SMEs, served to challenge the participants with case studies aimed to tune each individual capability, to enhance their understanding and to prepare them to react on real situations, during military operations, that could negatively affect the mission success.

The MDA commitment towards BI implementation within the defence sector was reaffirmed by Sergiu PLOP, State Secretary for National Defense Resources, during the closing ceremony. Brig. Gen Ellermann, JFCNP ACOS J9, underlined the importance of sharing experience and good practices in particular from different operational levels.

This activity has directly supported Moldova/NATO shared military partnership areas of cooperation. Furthermore it has also supported wider NATO aims to help build the trust and understanding that will lead to better cooperation in the region while increasing military interoperability for future NATO missions.
