Story by Diana Sodano, JFC Naples Public Affairs Office

NAPLES, Italy - Students and teachers from Middle Schools “Raffaele Viviani” and “Novio Atellano” located respectively in Naples and Frattaminore, Naples toured the facilities of Allied Joint Force Command Naples on 29 Jan 2020.

The schools’ students and teachers were given an overview of NATO’s structure, the work of the Joint Operations Centre, the role of NATO international civilians working at JFC Naples, and the importance of cyber security.

At the end of the presentations, students and teachers participated in a Questions and Answers session with the briefers.

I have visited the base several times because my father is an Italian Army Warrant Officer who works here at JFCNP
said Francesca, 12 years old, from Viviani school. “Today, for the first time, I had the opportunity to have an in-depth look at current NATO activities and missions all over the world, in particular the role of NATO soldiers in advising and mentoring foreign troops. I now realise how important NATO is for the safety of our world.”
I really appreciated the briefing about careers with NATO that this organization offers
commented Giuseppe 12, from Viviani school.“In the future, I will consider working with NATO as a really exciting job. In particular I was highly impressed by the role of NATO in the cyber domain,” he concluded.
I am really thankful to all military personnel who serve NATO and their country ensuring peace and stability all over the world

said Eleonora, 13, from Novio Atellano.

“Today, the briefings gave me a clear idea why NATO personnel are so enthusiastic and proud when deployed overseas.”

The students also had a chance to visit the base’s amenities, including the community centre, gym, library and pool.

The school visits are part of a community relations campaign to establish strong cultural and social links with civic society and to strengthen the relationship with local and regional institutions.
