JFC Naples RecogniSes Armistice Day

LAGO PATRIA, ITALY - Joint Force Command Naples representatives held an Armistice Day wreath-laying ceremony on 11 November 2020, in Lago Patria, Italy, all while practicing proper preventive measures such as physical distancing and wearing masks.

The wreath laying took place in the headquarters lobby, and Admiral Robert Burke, Commander Allied Joint Force Command Naples (JFCNP), provided remarks to recognize the importance of the day.

“Today we remember the valor, sacrifice, and the memory of our sons and daughters who perished in all conflicts from all of our nations” Admiral Burke said.

Admiral Burke then asked all in attendance to join him in a 2-minute moment of observed silence.

Lieutenant General Omer Lavoie (CAN), Deputy Commander JFCNP, and Lieutenant General A. Vittiglio (ITA), Chief of Staff JFCNP were also in attendance, among other command leadership.

The first official Armistice Day events were held in the grounds of Buckingham Palace on the morning of 11 November 1919.

“Since the founding of NATO more than seven decades ago, our Alliance has grown to 30 resolute nations. The efforts of our Alliance have enabled unprecedented stability – and we stand ready to deter and, if necessary, defend against any adversary. Our nations count on us to ensure the reality of peace and prosperity of the Euro-Atlantic Area” Burke said, to close out the ceremony.
