NAPLES, Italy - JFC Naples celebrated the opening ceremony of the Freedom is not Free on Tour exhibition on February 5, 2020 at the JFC Naples Community Center.

Colonel Michele Galantino, Base Support Group Commander, formalized the opening and delivered his speech on behalf of Lt Gen Antonio Vittiglio, JFC Naples Chief of Staff. Mr. Gabriele Mele, staff member of the De Gasperi Foundation, talked to the audience about the project in details.

“I want to express my thanks to the President of the De Gasperi Foundation Angelino Alfano and to his staff” said Colonel Galantino “who have realized in a superb manner the exhibition here at JFC Naples,” he continued. “I also want to thank the JFC Naples and the Morale Welfare Activity (MWA) personnel who have greatly contributed and supported this event,” Galantino concluded.

The Freedom is not Free on Tour exhibition will be in place at JFC Naples from 5 to 28 February 2020.

The Freedom is not Free on Tour initiative is part of the Freedom is not Free communication project sponsored by the De Gasperi Foundation to mark NATO’s 70th anniversary. This project was the winner of the “Be part of NATO” invitation to tender published by the Public Diplomacy Division of NATO Headquarters and aims at improving the level of familiarity of the general public (the younger generations, in particular) with NATO and its perceiving the Atlantic Alliance as a driver of stability and international security.

In reply to an invitation for tender of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to propose initiatives celebrating the 70th anniversary of NATO, the De Gasperi Foundation has decided to widen its project and include a travelling exhibition called “Freedom is not free on tour” to be displayed in schools, institutions, international organizations and cultural centers during 2019-2020. Naples has been one of the destinations of the tour.

“Each and every one of us must be committed to achieving and preserving peace” Martina Bacigalupi, the organizer of the project said. “It’s a commitment that must be renewed every day: this is the message we wish to convey through our Freedom is not for Free Tour project now on display at JFC Naples for NATO staff and external visitors to visit.”

This project is part of the Public Affairs Community Relations activities to establish and strengthen the relationship with the external community and to be in line with the #WEARENATO campaign.
