SKOPJE, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia – The third Regional Collective Training Event Planning Workshop in support of Regional Exercise 2019 (REGEX 19) took place February 4-9, 2019. Story by Allied Joint Force Command Naples J9 Military Partnership Branch.
REGEX is a NATO-supported opportunity for partner countries to plan and conduct an exercise, shaping it to meet national training requirements. The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia* has taken the lead for REGEX 19 following Bosnia and Herzegovina (REGEX 16), Jordan (REGEX 17) and Serbia (REGEX 18) as Partner Nations.
A JFC Naples J7/J9 REGEX team, headed by French Army Lieutenant Colonel Christophe Le Cerf, mentored the workshop.
41 military personnel from 18 partner countries, the African Union, and a 24-person host nation team participated.
The third workshop this year built training objectives from previously developed exercise specifications and developing the scenario module.
"REGEX is a unique activity with participants from different countries and continents,” said Major General Pavle Arsoski, host nation Joint Operational Command Commander REGEX 19, adding that "REGEX is an investment in the future.”
Arsoski also said REGEX19 is one of the two most important military exercises the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia* will conduct or participate in during 2019.
Allied Joint Force Command Naples will conduct four more REGEX 19 workshops followed by the Execution Phase in 2019.
The REGEX initiative supports NATO objectives by developing partner nations’ familiarity with NATO procedures, building regional trust and mutual understanding, and promoting increased interoperability.
