JFCNP Team Trains in Tunisia

Story by J-9

TUNIS, Tunisia. A team from Allied Joint Force Command Naples, which also included representatives from the Land Command Izmir participated in the second Force Preparation Working Group (FPWG) with the Tunisian Armed Forces, December 10-11, 2019.

As part of the implementation plan of the Tunisian Defense Capacity Building (DCB) Package, the FPWG focused on the Military Partnerships objectives of Military Dialogue and Consultation and visited the Intervention Battalion of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade, a declared Tunisian Land Force Operational Capability Concept Pool of Forces unit.

This visit further developed the roadmap for the Education and Training (E&T) of the Tunisian Armed Forces committed to NATO, with the ultimate goal of having them certified by NATO as “Combat Ready”.

“The highlights of this visit consisted of the live fire and combat skills demonstrations by the Tunisian troops.

Seeing how the unit utilizes its Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures provided the NATO team with a better understanding of the Tunisian equipment, requirements, and capabilities,” said Major Luigi Cipri, OCC E&F lead of the JFC Naples Military partnership Branch.

“As we look toward future collaboration, NATO can provide targeted assistance in the form of a Mobile Training Teams to address specific technical or operational training needs of the TUN Infantry Mechanized Battalion.”, said Maj Cipri.

With the endorsement DCB package for Tunisia at the Brussels Summit in July 2018, NATO and Tunisia agreed to reinvigorate cooperation in multiple areas.

The FPWG constitutes a primary and immediate deliverable on NATO’s commitment to supporting Tunisia in its cooperation with NATO.
