KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait – Personnel from the civilian and military interaction and cooperation teams at Allied Joint Force Command Naples conducted a training event in Kuwait, May 7 to 11, 2018.

The Mobile Training Team conducted the event, dubbed "NATO Civil-Military Interaction and Civil Military Cooperation: Planning at Operational Level”, with the aim of providing insight into planning for civil-military issues during crisis response operations outside of NATO territory and based on NATO standards and procedures.

The event was designed to be a follow-up and more comprehensive offering to the first basic course offered late last year.

JFC Naples J9 CMI-CIMIC conducted a Mobile Training Team (MTT) on "NATO Civil-Military Interaction (CMI) and Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC): Planning at operational level (CIMIC MTT II)” in Kuwait from 7 to 11 May 2018. As part of the training event, participants were informed on best practices and practical steps to facilitate the coordination of operational planning between civilian and military representatives during the preparedness phase of crisis response operations.

A total of 18 participants from the Kuwait National Guard, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Interior and Fire Service Directorate attended the training which was held at the NATO Istanbul Cooperating Initiative (ICI) Regional Centre. Inaugurated in January of last year, the NATO-ICI Regional Centre is the hub for training, education and other cooperation activities between NATO and its Istanbul Cooperation Initiative partners in the Gulf, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

The JFC Naples Facilitators’ Team was integrated by key representatives from the International Humanitarian Community. Organizers said this enhanced understanding for the participants of how dialogue and interaction between civilian and military stakeholders can be established and maintained in the context of ICI countries.
The MTT activity of JFC Naples, conducted in partnership with the NATO-ICI Regional Centre, aims to enhance practical cooperation and shared expertise with the Gulf region, according to event organizers.
