BELGRADE, Serbia – The fifth Regional Collective Training Event Planning Workshop in support of Regional Exercise 18 took place May 7 to 11, in Belgrade, Serbia.

REGEX is a NATO-supported opportunity for partner countries to plan and conduct an exercise from beginning to end and is tailored to their specific training requirements. Serbia is the third Partner Nation to have taken the lead for REGEX, following Bosnia and Herzegovina (REGEX 16) and Jordan (REGEX 17).

An Allied Joint Force Command Naples J7/J9 REGEX team, headed by French Army Lieutenant Colonel Christophe, mentored the workshop.  Forty-eight participants from 17 Partner Countries across the Partnership Frameworks and eight officers from the Host Nation took part.

Egyptian Army Colonel Ashraf Kandil stated that REGEX is a good opportunity for Partners to meet and exchange experiences. It is a way to unify and find a collective way together regardless of mother tongue, conflicts and disputes.

The workshop focused on the development of the Main Events List/Main Incidents List theory and the execution of the MEL/MIL process, which consists of the MEM/MIL Strategy workshop, MEL/MIL Incident Development and MEL/MIL Scripting. A MEL/MIL subject matter expert from Joint Force Training Command in Poland, French Army Lieutenant Colonel Alexandre, also attended to further boost the NATO mentoring effort for the students.

JFC Naples is planning to conduct two more REGEX 18 workshops and the Execution Phase in 2018. The REGEX initiative supports NATO objectives by making Partners familiar with NATO procedures, building trust and understanding for better cooperation in the region and promoting increased interoperability.
