BELGRADE, Serbia – The third Regional Collective Training Event Planning Workshop in support of Regional Exercise 18 took place Jan. 29 to Feb. 2, 2018, in Belgrade, Serbia.
More than 50 participants from 17 partner countries and the host nation took part in the workshop.
The exercise, dubbed REGEX, is a NATO supported opportunity for partner countries to plan and conduct an exercise from beginning to end and is tailored to their specific training requirements. Serbia has taken the lead for this year’s event following Jordan and Bosnia and Herzegovina as host partner nations.
A team from Allied Joint Force Command Naples, headed by French Army Lt. Col. Christophe Le Cerf, a joint training and exercises section head at JFC Naples, mentored the workshop participants.
The workshop focused on a review of the planning process, building training objectives according to exercise specifications and conducting the exercise’s Initial Planning Conference. Representatives from the International Committee of the Red Cross and the National Red Cross of Serbia also made presentations during the event.
JFC Naples aims to conduct four more REGEX 18 workshops as well as the execution phase, slated for this Oct. 15 to 19 at the Belgrade-based Serbian Simulation Training Center. Organizers said the REGEX initiative supports NATO objectives by familiarizing partners with NATO procedures, building trust and understanding for better cooperation in the region and by promoting increased interoperability.
