NATO continues Qatari partnership from Naples

NAPLES, Italy – As part of the 2004 Istanbul Cooperation Initiative , the relationship between NATO and Qatar continues to provide mutually-beneficial opportunities.

Within the ICI, NATO entities such as Allied Joint Force Command Naples provides Mobile Training Teams to work with Qatari troops to improve their knowledge in regards to defence transformation, budgeting, planning, civilian-military relations among other practices.

From April 16 to 19, an MTT from JFC Naples provided counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency classroom-based training. The course included roles within special operations, engineering and numerous other actions needed to deter terrorism and raise awareness of the threat and to develop capabilities to prepare and respond while enhancing engagement with Qatar.

"What our MTT accomplished is sharing our doctrine, experiences and allowed us to brainstorm with our Qatari counterparts,” said the French Army Commandant from JFC Naples who provided the lessons. "The counter-terrorism framework is a designed approach against radicalism and terror attacks.”

By doing these partnered training activities, NATO is able to enforce its counter-terrorism policy guides to help leverage the full potential of each stakeholder engaged in the global counter-terrorism effort.
