NAPLES, Italy — A meeting aimed to further bolster military cooperation between Egypt and NATO took place in Cairo, Egypt, Feb. 21, 2018.
Major General Hisham Roshdee, assistant director of information and cooperation for the Egyptian Armed Forces, hosted a delegation from Allied Joint Force Command Naples, led by German Army Brigadier General Reinhard Kloss, the assistant chief of staff for military partnership at JFC Naples, for the Military Cooperation Expert Staff Meeting. Partnership representatives from NATO’s land and marine component commands were also in attendance.
The aim of the meeting was to review accomplishments in 2017, discuss ongoing activities for 2018 and begin planning for next year. According to event organizers, the EAF delegation reinforced their commitment to military cooperation activities and came away with a better understanding of the opportunities and constraints for participating in NATO sponsored courses and military exercises.
Kloss said the NATO team gained insight into Egypt’s security concerns and partnership priorities. He emphasized the key to maintaining progress is effective communication.
Egypt has been a member of the Mediterranean Dialogue framework since 1994.
