BELGRADE, Serbia – The 2nd Regional Collective Training Event Planning Workshop in support of Regional Exercise 18 took place, Nov. 20 to 24 in Belgrade, Serbia.
REGEX is a NATO supported opportunity for partner countries to plan and conduct an exercise from the beginning to the end according to their training requirements. Serbia has taken the lead for REGEX 18 following Bosnia and Herzegovina, REGEX 16, and Jordan, REGEX 17.
A J7/J9 REGEX team, led by French Army Lieutenant Colonel Christophe Le Cerf, Allied Joint Force Command Naples J7 Training & Exercise – Future Operations and Exercises Section Head, mentored the Workshop where 55 participants from 20 partner countries took part. Of note, first time representatives from Kuwait and Israel joined the REGEX. The workshop focused on the Stage 3 and 4 of the Exercise Planning Process (EPP), following the premises of the Bilateral Strategic 75-03. The Syndicate work started, and the Exercise Specifications (EXPECs) were discussed among all the participants. The EXPECs Conference was also driven by the Host Nation.
The NATO Military Liaison Office Belgrade hosted an ice-breaker for all the participants and Military Attaches from several countries also attended.
Allied Joint Force Command Naples is planning to conduct five more REGEX 18 workshops and the Execution Phase in 2018. The REGEX initiative supports NATO objectives by making partners familiar with NATO procedures, by building trust and understanding for better cooperation in the region, and by promoting increased interoperability.
