JFC Naples hosts first Balkans Study Day


LAGO PATRIA, Italy - Allied Joint Force Command Naples hosted its first Study Day devoted to improving and updating understanding of the Balkans region, February 23, 2017.

The Study Day involved some 140 participants from across NATO, Allies, the European Union and other partner organizations, all informed by some of the leading contemporary scholars of the region. Panels comprised representatives of the international organizations working for peace, security and reform there including the Representative of the UN Secretary General and Head of the UN Office in Belgrade, Ambassador Simona-Mirela Miculescu.

The Study Day was also briefed by Commanders and staff from the NATO offices and missions in the region. Working groups were chaired by leading practitioners including the Canadian Ambassador to Kosovo and Croatia, Mr. Daniel Maksymiuk . These informed a final plenary on lessons learned and next steps to which Commander of JFC Naples, US Navy Admiral Michelle Howard offered concluding remarks.
