JFC Naples welcomes Senior NATO, EU representative from ICRC


 

NAPLES, Italy - Staff from Allied Joint Force Command Naples Civil and Military Cooperation hosted Mr. Andrew Bell, the Senior NATO and European Union Representative from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Feb. 1, 2016.

This visit is a follow up of the ICRC Humanitarian Operational Dialogue with JFC Naples which is planned on a yearly basis due to the existence of current Memorandums of Understanding with NATO, established in 1997 and reconfirmed in 2012.

The staff visit was based on the participation of the ICRC for exercise Trident Juncture 2016 and served to enhance mutual understanding between the ICRC and JFC Naples.
Mr. Bell received several briefings on situational awareness and exercise plans from different branches of JFC Naples and he briefed the role and the mission of ICRC.

The ICRC is a neutral, impartial and independent humanitarian organization encouraging all States and parties to a conflict to respect the Law of Armed Conflict. The ICRC mission is to protect human life and health, to ensure respect for all human beings, and to prevent and alleviate human suffering, without any discrimination.

The ICRC is the promoter of the Geneva Conventions and as such plays a unique role during operations in particular to safeguard the rights of Prisoners of War.
