DOHA, Qatar – A NATO delegation led by Allied Joint Force Command Naples ACOS J9 conducted its first-ever Expert Staff Meeting, or ESM, with the Qatar Armed Forces in Doha, Qatar on 22 November 2016.
The aim of the Expert Staff Meeting was to showcase the various partnership opportunities available, discuss past and present military cooperation activities and to prepare future ones in accordance with Qatar Armed Forces requests and ambition. All military cooperation events evolve from an Individual Partnership Cooperation Program that exists between NATO and the State of Qatar.
Brigadier General Kloss, JFC Naples ACOS J9, led the NATO delegation that met with the Director of Military Training, G.H.Q. Military Training Directorate, Brigadier General Khalifa Alnaimi. Military Partnership Representatives from JFC Naples and LANDCOM provided multiple presentations on NATO military structures, its military cooperation programs, too include various activities and exercises available to Qatar over the next two years.
Insightful discussions were had by both parties as this was the first ESM conducted by NATO with Qatar. Not only did the NATO team come away with a better understanding of what types of training Qatar desired, but Qatar leadership was provided an in-depth look at what training was available. Brigadier General Alnaimi closed the meeting by saying how important it was to have a close relationship with NATO and he was looking forward to conducting ESMs on an annual basis.
