NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania – A Mobile Training Team (MTT) from Allied Joint Force Command Naples conducted a Counterinsurgency seminar at the Ecole Supérieure Polytechnique of the Mauritanian Armed Forces in Nouakchott, Sept. 5-8, 2016.
The joint HQ JFC Naples training team was comprised of three staff officers from the J9 military partnerships division, the office of the Political Advisor (POLAD) and the office of the Special Operations Forces Advisor (SOFAD).
The training team presented NATO Counterinsurgency (COIN) lessons by familiarizing the Mauritanian partner students with Allied Joint Doctrine on COIN, including Intelligence lessons and the NATO approach to Countering Improvised Explosive Devices.
Several case-studies were presented in order to underline fundamental NATO COIN lessons.
The seminar was attended by a group of 28 Mauritanian partner officers from the Armed Forces and the Gendarmerie.
After the conclusion of the seminar and the awarding of training certificates to the Mauritanian partner officers, the JFC Naples training team was received for an office call by Major General Hanena Ould Sidi, the Mauritanian Armed Forces Deputy Chief of Staff. Maj. Gen. Sidi was informed about the details of the course, and he warmly thanked the JFC Naples training team for its work. Also discussed were practical options of further enhancing NATO partnership cooperation with Mauritania.
The seminar in Nouakchott was the first training event that JFC Naples has conducted in Mauritania.
Mauritania is a member of NATOs’ Mediterranean Dialogue Partnerships framework.
