SARAJEVO, Bosnia and Herzegovina - The "3rd Regional Collective Training Event Planning Workshop in support of Regional Exercise (REGEX) 16” took place January 25-29, 2016.
The workshop was conducted in the Sarajevo Army Hall with the participation of 37 partners from 14 countries.
The participants came from: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Jordan, Kyrghyzstan, Moldova, Montenegro, Morocco, Pakistan, Serbia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia*, Tunisia, Ukraine, European Union Force and NATO Headquarters Sarajevo
REGEX is a NATO-supported opportunity for partner countries to plan an exercise from the beginning to the end, according to their training requirements. Bosnia and Herzegovina took lead for REGEX 16 with a peace support operation scenario, marking the first time REGEX was hosted by a partner country.
The objectives of this workshop were to set up syndicates of operations and exercise planning, as well as real life support and communication infrastructure systems. Further, the workshop focused on conducting an initial planning conference, updating the sending nations` unit bids for the field training exercise portion.
Allied Joint Force Command Naples subject matter experts mentored the Joint Staff Armed Forces BiH members as they led the syndicates.
German Army Brigadier General Reinhard Kloss, joined a session to greet the participants. He thanked them for participation in this partnership event. He stressed the importance of REGEX 16, pointing out that this is the first REGEX that is being planned and organized by a partner country as host nation.
JFC Naples is planning to conduct four more workshops and an Execution Phase in 2016. This initiative supports NATO objectives and builds trust and understanding for a better cooperation in the region and promotes increasing interoperability within NATO.
