Chairman of NATO Military Committee visits Serbia
BELGRADE, Serbia - 16th - 17th April 2015, the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, General Knud Bartel, paid a two-day visit during which he met with Chief of Defense Ljubisa Dikovic to discuss mutual relations and future cooperation between NATO and Serbia.
General Bartels used the opportunity to highlight the excellent and extensive cooperation and coordination that exists between the Serbian Armed Forces and KFOR. "I strongly believe in the potential of NATO-Serbia relations. Serbia is a member of the European family like any other; we want to work as closely with you as we do with our other European partners,” General Bartels stated during a press conference with General Dikovic.
During his visit, the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee also visited the NATO MLO Belgrade and met with the Chief of the Office, Brigadier General Lucio Batta. The two agreed that NATO and Serbia are successfully cooperating through various Partnership of Peace mechanisms, and noted that the MLO will have an important role to play in the implementation of the IPAP agreement, especially in public diplomacy.
In addition, General Bartels met with representatives of the leading Serbian NGOs and think-thanks, and gave interviews for Radio Free Europe and the Serbian edition of Newsweek.
