Deputy Secretary General visits Serbia, confers with MLO
During a visit to Belgrade for the inauguration ceremony of President Aleksander Vučić, Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller underlined that NATO remains committed to the Western Balkans and to building a strong partnership with Serbia. The two leaders also discussed cooperation between the Alliance and Serbia, with the Deputy Secretary General welcoming Serbia’s offer to host NATO’s Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) exercise in 2018.
Ms. Gottemoeller also conferred with Chief of MLO, Brigadier General Cesare Marinelli, and his team, stressing the important role of the Office in facilitating practical cooperation and mutual dialogue between the Alliance and Serbia. General Marinelli commended the professionalism and commitment of the Serbia Armed Forces in making important contributions to international peacekeeping, noting that the MLO would continue supporting Belgrade's activities within the Partnership for Peace with full respect for the policy of military neutrality.
