Colonel Kenneth "Ross" WALKER

Colonel Walker joined the military in November of 1986 as a senior in High School and served on Active duty until 1992 as a Forward Observer. He was stationed in Ft Stewart GA, Panama, and FT Bliss Tx. He then joined the Texas Army National Guard in September of 1994 in C co 3-144 IN in Dallas, Texas. He was commissioned through OCS in September 1999.

Colonel Walker’s military education includes Infantry Officer Basic Course, Armor Captains Career Course, Maneuver Captains Career Course, Command and General Staff College, Advanced Operations Course, Security Forces Advise/Assist Course and the United States Army War College. He is also a graduate of: Pathfinder School, Basic Airborne Course and Air Assault School.

After his initial assignment as an officer in G co, 143rd LRS, Colonel Walker, was selected to be the Executive Officer for I Troop, 1-124 CAV, Brigade Recon Troop. He then transferred to the following assignments within 3-144 IN: S1, Terrell TX; Commander A co 3-144 IN, Greenville TX / Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan; S 3– Air, FT Worth TX / Tallil, Iraq and Battalion Executive Officer. Colonel Walker then moved to Army G3, Branch Schools Chief where he was selected to command a Security Force Advise/Assist team in Kandahar and Maiwand Provinces in Afghanistan. He served the 56 Infantry Brigade Combat Team as the Brigade XO and Brigade S3, operations officer and assigned as the Commander of 3rd Battalion 144th Infantry Regiment and deployed to Djibouti, Africa. Post Battalion command he was assigned as the Deputy J3, Joint Force Headquarters with a follow-on assignment as the G3, Operations Officer for 36th ID. Colonel Walker Currently serves as the Commander of the 56th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

Among his awards include the Bronze Star (3rd award), Defense Meritorious Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Award), Army Commendation (V Device), Army Commendation (8th Award), the Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, as well as the Iraq, Afghanistan and NATO campaign medals. Colonel Walker also earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and Expert Infantryman’s Badge.
