Italian Republic Day Commemorated at Camp Film City with KFOR Commander and Italian Ambassador

PRISTINA - The Commander of the NATO-led KFOR mission, Major General Enrico Barduani, presided over the ceremony marking the 79th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Italian Republic at KFOR Headquarters in Camp Film City, Pristina. He was accompanied by the Ambassador of Italy to Kosovo, His Excellency Maurizio Antonini, and the Head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), Major General Giovanni Pietro Barbano.

June 2nd commemorates the referendum held in 1946, when Italians freely chose the Republic, thus laying the foundations of Italy's democratic and constitutional identity.

In his address, Major General Barduani remarked how "a new Italy was born from that choice".

A choice which continues to be upheld and honoured today, through the service and dedication of Italian soldiers, both in Italy and overseas.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Antonini commended the Italian contingent for their essential contribution to security and stability.

KFOR continues to implement its mandate - based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999 - to contribute to a safe and secure environment for all people and communities living in Kosovo and freedom of movement, at all times and impartially. KFOR works in close coordination with the Kosovo Police and the European Union Mission on Rule of Law in Kosovo (EULEX) in their respective roles as security responders.
