PRISTINA -The Commander of the NATO-led KFOR mission, Major General Enrico Barduani, briefed the NATO Military Committee at NATO Headquarters on the security situation in Kosovo and KFOR’s ongoing activities.
He highlighted the mission’s achievements over the past six months since assuming command in October 2024, emphasizing that a proactive operational posture is essential to addressing current challenges and preparing for future ones.
Major General Barduani noted that the security situation remains fragile due to various factors, including ongoing regional tensions and limited progress by Belgrade and Pristina toward normalization of relations. In this context, he reaffirmed KFOR’s full support for the EU-facilitated Dialogue as a pathway toward a lasting solution that benefits all communities.
He also reiterated KFOR’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment and ensuring freedom of movement for all people and communities in Kosovo, in line with its longstanding UN mandate.
During the meeting, the Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, expressed his strong appreciation for General Barduani’s leadership and KFOR’s accomplishments. He emphasized that KFOR’s continued presence is critical for consolidating long-term security in Kosovo and preserving regional stability.
KFOR continues to implement its mandate—based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999—by working in close coordination with the Kosovo Police and the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) in their respective roles as security responders.
