PRISTINA - The Commander of the NATO-led KFOR mission Regional Command East, Col. Eric Riley, met today with the Mayor of Kamenica Mr. Qendron Kastrati. The meeting was part of regular contacts held between KFOR personnel and local authorities in Kosovo.
Col. Riley and Mr. Kastrati exchanged views on an array of issues of mutual interest, including on security in the area. Col. Riley reaffirmed KFOR’s commitment to continue strengthening its enduring and impartial efforts to help ensuring that the local situation is of benefit to all citizens living in the municipality.
KFOR troops will continue their regular patrolling in the whole area, in close coordination with the Kosovo Police and other security organizations.
The impact of the Covid19 pandemic on Kamenica’s communities was also discussed, as KFOR is supporting the Institutions in Kosovo at all levels in responding to this emergency.
The Commander of KFOR, Major General Michele Risi, who has been in regular contact with various officials from different Institutions in Kosovo, reaffirmed the commitment of the NATO-led mission to continue contributing in an impartial way to a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for all citizens in Kosovo, as mandated by the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999.
“Since 1999, in carrying out its mission KFOR has supported the development of a stable and peaceful Kosovo, and will continue to boost the long-standing partnership existing with the local Institutions and security organizations and the International Community”, stated Major General Risi. The KFOR Commander also highlighted that KFOR has been supporting the local response to the Coronavirus crisis, by facilitating the delivery of critical aid from NATO Allies and partners and the donation of personal protection equipment to several municipalities and local communities, health facilities and units of the Kosovo Police.
Furthermore, he underscored that “the cooperation between KFOR and the Kosovo Police and other security institutions is very effective and is growing on a daily basis through consolidated mechanisms of joint coordination at different operational levels. The aim is to further strengthen the protection, security and freedom of movement of all communities in Kosovo that KFOR wants to reassure, for the benefit of local security and regional stability.”
