KFOR provided Medical support to Letnica Pilgrimage

Pristina - KFOR medical assets were present in Letnica village in order to provide assistance to the pilgrims that gathered on the lawn of the Church of the Black Madonna. The Sanctuary, built between XVI and XVII centuries, is the site of the annual pilgrimage of Roman Catholics and Muslims to mark the Feast of the Assumption of Mary which is celebrated on August 15.

KFOR Commander, Major General Salvatore Cuoci, attended the event along with many KFOR soldiers. During the procession and on the spot during the mass KFOR was monitoring the situation with its medical assets. A KFOR medical doctor, a nurse and an assistant with a military ambulance followed the event, ready to intervene and provide help to pilgrims.

The Letnica pilgrimage is considered a feast day that involves every year thousands of people coming from different countries of the Western Balkans Area, but also from other nations of the world. Pilgrims pay tribute to the Black Madonna sharing a particular experience and developing the pleasure to stay together.
