Supreme Allied Commander Europe visited Kosovo


PRISTINA - KFOR Commander, Major General Giovanni FUNGO, welcomed today, July 21, the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), General Curtis M. SCAPARROTTI.

SACEUR was briefed by COMKFOR and his Staff on the improvement on the current situation in Kosovo and in the Western Balkans. They underlined the importance of the commitment of KFOR in maintaining a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for all people in Kosovo firmly, fairly and impartially. He expressed his appreciation for KFOR troops commitment and dedication. "KFOR plays a vital role in a stable security situation to provide the time and space needed for diplomatic progress” SACEUR said.

Furthermore, during his visit General SCAPARROTTI took part in several meetings with Kosovo Key leaders discussing about the importance of the stability in the Western Balkans Region. His first meeting was with President, Hashim THAÇI in his office in Pristina and thereupon he moved to Kosovo Security Forces HQ, where he was received by the honor guard and met with KSF Commander, General RAMA.

During the two day visit, SACEUR, accompanied by COMKFOR, also had a very useful gathering with the Heads of UNMIK, OSCE, EU and EULEX and QUINT Ambassadors (France, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom and United States).

General SCAPARROTTI concluded his visit with a press conference where he stated that "KFOR will remain a robust and credible force capable of carrying out its mission for as long as necessary”.
