KFOR marks the end of Netherlands’ contribution to the mission


PRISTINA, Kosovo – A ceremony was held in Camp Film City on Friday, to mark the end of Netherlands’ contribution to KFOR. On this occasion, KFOR Deputy Commander, General Christian Riener handed over the Dutch Flag to the Dutch Military Attaché, Lieutenant Colonel Theo Plijner.

After 18 years, Netherlands Armed Forces concluded their contribution to KFOR that started in 1999 with the deployment of about 4.000 Dutch soldiers, mainly belonging to artillery and engineer units. According to Lieutenant Colonel Plijner, Netherlands will continue to support the Institutions in Kosovo and will maintain their contribution to EULEX as well as to many other international community missions.

Brigadier General Riener, on behalf of COMKFOR, Major General Giovanni Fungo, thanked the Dutch representative for the outstanding cooperation ensured by the Dutch contingent in performing several tasks being devoted and adherent to KFOR’s mandate.

The ceremony was also attended by the Dutch Ambassador to Kosovo, H. E. Gerrie Willems, and many other military and civilian international representatives.
