COMMENCEMENT OF KTM DEPLOYMENT TO BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA FOR EXERCISE ‘‘QUICK RESPONSE 2016’’

Pristina, September 28th 2016. Today 240 troops of the KFOR commenced their road journey to Bosnia and Herzegovina, through Montenegro in order to participate in Exercise "Quick Response 2016”. KFOR will participate in training with the EUFOR Multinational Battalion.

KFORs Tactical Reserve Manoeuvre Battalion (KTM) is stationed in Camp Slim Lines in Pristina. KTMs capabilities include a wide range of security operations. KTM can be deployed anywhere in the theater of operations and perform any task or mission for an unlimited period of time, being completely independent. The unit is commanded by a Portuguese officer and the unit comprises both Hungarian and Portuguese troops.

KTM also acts as an ‘‘Over the Horizon Force’’ to reinforce the European Union Force (EUFOR) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, if required. It is in this capacity that five separate convoys in multi-serial packets, consisting of the designated KTM exercise troops, departed from Kosovo this morning. The multi-faceted exercise will be conducted with over 500 Soldiers, which will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and experience.

COMKFOR Major General Giovanni Fungo stated that "the participation of our troops in this exercise is a very significant step towards maintaining the capability and readiness of KFOR soldiers to act in a resolute and speedy manner. It will also demonstrate that KFOR is absolutely committed to maintain a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for all people.’’
