PRISTINA, Kosovo. Today the KFOR engineering and transport specialists, deployed in the suburbs of Skopje, in assisting the FYROM* authorities due to the recent dramatic flooding, returned to KFOR base, on Prizren, where they were recognized by Kosovo Force Commander, Major General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta.

 

General Miglietta expressed his appreciation for the very high professionalism and readiness demonstrated by all staff, operating in loco and in KFOR HQ, for coordinating and planning purposes.

 

The KFOR engineer equipment included numerous heavy lift and engineer assets, such as loaders, excavators and dumper trucks, from KFOR’ Swiss and Austrian contingents.

 

During more than a week of non-stop activity on the ground, KFOR specialists removed around 1000 m³ of waste material and cleaned the assigned route directly involved in restoring the movement and the connections between villages in the vicinity of Skopje, damaged following torrential rains and a flood surge, on August 6 2016.

 

Highly motivated KFOR service members worked night and day, and their sterling efforts were greatly appreciated by the local authorities and populace in the villages, so badly affected by the consequences of this natural disaster.

 

KFOR immediately reacted and provided assistance to the local population. This confirms both the readiness and operational capability of KFOR to intervene promptly in such emergency relief operations.

 

The KFOR disaster relief support mission is fully compliant and complimentary with KFOR's stated mission to enhance peace, stability and security within the Balkan region.
