KFOR HOLDS HIGH-LEVEL TALKS WITH ALBANIAN CHIEF OF DEFENCE

PRISTINA, Kosovo. Today KFOR Commander, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, held high-level talks with the Chief of Defence of Albania, Major General Jeronim Bazo, at Kosovo Force Headquarters, in Pristina.

Throughout the meeting, the two high ranking Officers and the international staff of KFOR discussed the latest developments in the current security situation in Kosovo. They also discussed the migration flow and the complex phenomenon of foreign fighters. KFOR, as the third responder in maintaining a Safe and Secure Environment and Freedom of Movement in Kosovo, continues to fully accomplish its tasks, according to the UN mandate. KFOR’s mission remains unchanged and any change to KFOR’s future force posture will be based on careful analysis of the conditions on the ground.

They agreed that it is necessary to reach a comprehensive, humanitarian and political solution to the migration issue in the Balkans through the involvement of all the international stakeholders. General Bazo highlighted the importance of KFOR’s presence in Kosovo and the ability of KFOR to work in a constructive way and in close coordination with both the local and the International Organizations. "KFOR is the oldest, longest and most successful mission of NATO which promotes and shares the values of NATO countries”, General Bazo said.

This was also an occasion for General Miglietta to express his appreciation for the professionalism of the Albanian soldiers deployed mainly as members of KFOR HQ staff. These meetings are part of the high-level talks within COMKFOR’s agenda aimed to increase dialogue and mutual military understanding among the countries bordering on Kosovo.
