KFOR COMMANDER MET MAYORS FROM MITROVICA SOUTH AND NORTH


PRISTINA, September 26th 2016: KFOR Commander, Major General Giovanni Fungo, met this afternoon with the Mayor of South Mitrovica, Agim Bahtiri.

During the meeting they discussed the current situation in Kosovo. Mr Agim Bahtiri expressed COMKFOR his appreciation and gratitude for the impartial and effective posture of KFOR in maintaining safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for all people. In addition the Mayor stated: "I work for the welfare of all citizens. In our municipality, 20 factories are expected to be opened; this will create up to 800 new jobs. The majority of the citizens want the re-opening of the bridge, currently expected for January.”

After this meeting the KFOR Commander met the Mayor of Mitrovica North, Mr Goran Rakic. They discussed security and possibilities for improving living conditions in the north of Mitrovica and the Mayor remarked that the situation has made progress also due to the presence of KFOR. COMKFOR stressed that KFOR will continue to provide SASE and FOM for all Communities.

In both meetings, COMKFOR stressed that the re-opening of the bridge will not only facilitate freedom of movement but will also give a high symbolic significance of reconciliation of the sociality. KFOR through its daily commitment is also strongly contributing to the establishment of better conditions for economic development. COMKFOR confirmed trust and commitment of the troops in promoting a peaceful and progressive environment in Kosovo.
