COM KFOR WELCOMED THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER AND MINISTER OF FOREIGN AND EUROPEAN AFFAIRS OF SLOVAKIA

PRISTINA, Kosovo. On the 10th anniversary of the Slovakian air tragedy, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Mr. Miroslav Lajcak was welcomed to KFOR Headquarters by Kosovo Force Commander, Major General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta.

The meeting was an opportunity for General Miglietta to express his deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased and to the Slovakian people for the airplane crash that occurred in 2006. This tragic event claimed the lives of 42 Slovakian soldiers that were returning home from their service with KFOR.

During the meeting, the overall security and social situation in Kosovo as well as the wider Balkans region was also discussed. They agreed that KFOR’s mandate is still important especially for the stability of Kosovo and the Western Balkans region.

Slovakia is an important player in the International Community’s efforts in Kosovo and contributed to KFOR from its outset in 1999 until 2010.

After the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Lajcak and General Miglietta laid a wreath at the KFOR Memorial Garden, in Camp "Film City”, to commemorate the Slovakian soldiers that died in 2006.
