NATO SECRETARY GENERAL VISITS KFOR


23rd January 2015. Today, KFOR Commander, Major General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, accompanied by Admiral Mark E. Ferguson III Commander JFC Naples, welcomed the NATO Secretary General Mr. Jens Stoltenberg, at Camp "Film City” NATO KFOR Headquarters in Pristina/Prishtinë.

NATO Secretary General was briefed by KFOR Commander and the international HQ Staff on the latest developments in the current security and socio-political situation in Kosovo. In particular, it was highlighted the important results achieved by KFOR to ensure a secure environment, thus allowing the development of better social and economic conditions for all citizens of Kosovo.

After the briefing, Mr. Stoltenberg met with the Representatives of the International Community in Kosovo, namely UNMIK Special Representative of Secretary General, EU Special Representative, EULEX Head of Mission, and the OSCE Head of Mission. During these talks, it was underlined the great importance of the comprehensive approach and the mutual cooperation among the International Community Organizations in order to enhance the stability and the overall security of the Kosovo.

NATO Secretary General was also received by Ms. Atifete Jahjaga, Mr. Isa Mustafa, Mr. Hashim Thaçi, Mr. Branimir Stojanović, and Mr. Haki Demolli. Mr. Stoltenberg confirmed that NATO would continue to support security in Kosovo, promoting progress and dialogue in the area.

During the visit, NATO Secretary General also had the opportunity to speak to KFOR service-members deployed in Camp "Film City”. He expressed his pride for the excellent results achieved by KFOR, in improving the overall security situation in Kosovo, thanks to the professionalism, dedication and devotion of its soldiers.

As Mr. Stoltenberg said: "Sixteen years ago, NATO came here in the aftermath of bloodshed and war. Today, Kosovo is a very different place. Peaceful, stable, increasingly prosperous. Under a clear United Nations mandate, our mission has helped transform Kosovo into a safer place. And it has helped make the Western Balkans more stable. KFOR will continue to preserve a safe and secure environment and guarantee freedom of movement for all people in Kosovo. And I know you will do this firmly, fairly and impartially”.
