KFOR HIGH-LEVEL TALKS IN MONTENEGRO: DIALOGUE AS A KEY SUCCESS FACTOR


Pristina, Kosovo. High Level Talks took place in Montenegro where KFOR Commander, Major General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, met the Minister of Defence, Ms Milica Pejanovic, Chief of General Staff of the Army, Vice Admiral Dragan Sarmardzic and the Montenegro's Police Director, Slavko Stojanović. The purpose of these talks is to increase dialogue and mutual military understanding among the countries bordering Kosovo.

The main topics discussed during the meeting were the overall situation in Kosovo and in the Balkans, the concern of migrants’ flow and the necessity to maintain positive relations between neighbouring countries.

General Miglietta emphasized the importance in continuing dialogue and cooperation with all the stakeholders at Balkan regional level. He also highlighted the importance of sharing information so that all stakeholders are informed and prepared to face the current challenges that threaten the stability of the region.

Admiral Dragan Sarmardzic highlighted the importance of KFOR’s presence in Kosovo to preserve a safe and secure environment. KFOR, as a third responder in maintaining a Safe and Secure Environment and Freedom of Movement in Kosovo, continues to fully accomplish its tasks, according to the NATO mandate.

During the visit to Montenegro, General Miglietta also had the opportunity to meet the Montenegro's Police Director, Slavko Stojanović with whom he discussed the overall foreign fighters’ threat. They agreed that this phenomenon represents a complex and global issue. The so called "foreign fighters” affects every European Country.

These meetings are part of the high-level talks within COMKFOR agenda aimed to increase mutual military understanding among the countries bordering Kosovo.
