JFC NAPLES COMMANDER MEETS KFOR SERVICE MEMBERS


Pristina, Kosovo. Today, Joint Force Command – Naples Commander, U.S. Navy Admiral Mark E. Ferguson III, was welcomed at KFOR HQ, Pristina, by Kosovo Force Commander, Major General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta.

Admiral Ferguson received a comprehensive briefing on KFOR’s activities and on the latest developments in the current security situation in Kosovo as well as the wider Balkans region. He expressed his satisfaction with the conduct of Silver Sabre exercise, held in November, emphasizing the importance of the close cooperation between KFOR and the other security responders. The purpose of the exercise was to enhance KFOR’s ability to maintain the readiness of troops and increase their operational flexibility.

During the visit, JFC Naples Commander and COM KFOR met with Deputy Prime Minister, Branimir Stojanovic and the Special Representative of the Secretary General and Head of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), H.E. Mr Zahir Tanin. They agreed on the importance of KFOR’s presence as a key stakeholder in maintaining a safe and secure environment in Kosovo. The ability of KFOR to work in a constructive and impartial way and in close coordination with both Local Institutions and International Organizations is important for ensuring stability of the Balkan region.

Before leaving, Admiral Ferguson also had the opportunity to meet KFOR service members and to thank them for their continued efforts and dedication to the mission. There are approximately 5,000 soldiers from 31 countries serving with the NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR). KFOR continues to work towards maintaining a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for all citizens and communities in Kosovo.

"I wish to offer our appreciation to our KFOR troops during this holiday season. I truly believe that the work and commitment of each and every one of you has made KFOR a crucial partner in the stabilization process”, said Admiral Ferguson expressing his appreciation to men and women in KFOR for their high professionalism.

General Miglietta thanked Admiral Ferguson for his constant presence and closeness to the Kosovo Force mission.
