ITALIAN CHIEF OF DEFENCE VISITS KFOR


5th February 2015. Today, KFOR Commander, Major General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, received Admiral Luigi Binelli Mantelli, Chief of the Italian Defence General Staff. After his arrival at Pristina airport, Admiral Mantelli flew to Camp "Villaggio Italia” in Pec/Peja, where he was welcomed by Colonel Carlo Cavalli, Commander of the Multinational Battle Group West (MNBG West).

In Camp "Villaggio Italia”, the Italian Chief of Defence was briefed about the current security situation in the area and KFOR´s commitments in the region to ensure a secure environment, thus allowing the development of better social and economic conditions for all citizens of Kosovo.

During his visit, Admiral Binelli Mantelli met with the Italian Armed Forces personnel deployed in KFOR to whom he expressed his appreciation for the efforts performed every day, their professionalism and their dedication to the mission.

The Italian contribution in KFOR began in June 1999 and currently about 550 Italian service members are deployed across Kosovo. Italy is the lead nation of the MNBG West, the Multinational Specialized Unit and the Joint Regional Detachment Center.
