MAJOR GENERAL SALVATORE FARINA (COM KFOR) MET WITH THE AUSTRIAN FEDERAL MINISTER FOR EUROPEAN AND INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS, HE MR. SEBASTIAN KURZ
On 27th February 2014 Major General Salvatore FARINA (COM KFOR) met with the Austrian Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, HE Mr. Sebastian KURZ, in Camp Film City in Pristina.
COM KFOR and the Austrian Minister discussed the general security and political situation and the latest development in Kosovo and in the Balkan area.
The main topics discussed during the meeting were the security situation in Kosovo, in light of the election of the mayor of Mitrovica North that was conducted in a safe and secure environment, the debate about the ongoing Serbian parliamentary elections and the support to the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.
Major General Salvatore FARINA underlined the excellent work done by KFOR in close cooperation with all the local and international security organizations during the elections of the mayor of Mitrovica North on 23 February.
COM KFOR also underlined the high professionalism of the Austrian units deployed during the various operations and the elections.
HE Mr. Sebastian KURZ confirmed the full support of his country for the implementation of the agreement for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia and the support of his country to KFOR efforts in order to ensure the accomplishment of NATO mission and the support to progress for all the people of Kosovo.
Major General Salvatore FARINA thanked the Minister for the outstanding contribution of the Austrian contingent to the KFOR mission and underlined their great professionalism.
Austria is one the most important KFOR not-NATO Contributing Nation, with more than 350 soldiers deployed in Kosovo and with the plan to deploy an additional maneuver unit by mid-2014.
