KOSOVO, ITALIAN BASE “VILLAGGIO ITALIA”: VISOKI DEČANI MONASTERY AND DEÇAN MUNICIPALITY SIGNED AN AGREEMENT FOR THE CITIZENS

Peć/Peja 1st October 2014

Today, in Camp "Villaggio Italia”, seat of Multinational Battle Group West (MNBG-W), led by an Italian commander in the Western Sector of Kosovo, the signing of an agreement between the Municipality of Deçan and the Visoki Dečani Monastery took place.

During the event, KFOR Commander, Major General Francesco Paolo FIGLIUOLO and the MNBG-W Commander, Colonel Angelo MINELLI, Deçan Mayor, Rasim SELMANAJ, and the Monastery Abbot, Father Sava JANJIĆ, signed an agreement regarding the start of works for refurbishing an already-existing cart road within the Special Protected Zone, behind the Monastery.

Following the Agreement, the works, that will be carried out by the Joint Logistic Support Group (the multinational support unit of KFOR), thanks to the funds from an Italian Programme, will improve the cart road. This project, that hasn’t anyadverse impact on the monastic way of life of monks or on the environment, will provide more safety to the citizens who often visit the nearby mineral water spring that is believed to have curative properties.

The legal value of the Agreement’s signature reflects the symbolic importance of the act between the two counterparts - representing Albanian and Serbian communities – that, in accordance with the Kosovo Law on Special protected Zones dated 20thOctober 2008, welcomed, for their citizens, the proposal made by the MNBG-W, led by Italian Regiment "Lancieri di Montebello”.
