KFOR SUPPORTS SECURITY IN MITROVICA

October 15, 2014. KFOR Commander, Major General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, appreciated the handling of the situation in Mitrovica by the security responders, during and after the suspension of the soccer match between Serbia and Albania played yesterday in Belgrade.

After the interruption of the match, many people started to assemble on both sides of Austerlitz Bridge in Mitrovica but the coordinated deployment of Kosovo Police and EULEX was very effective in controlling the situation and acted as an on the spot deterrence. No clashes and incidents were reported.

KFOR supported Kosovo Police and EULEX, by monitoring thoroughly the situation with the Multinational Specialized Unit and the Liaison and Monitoring Teams-North and by quickly deploying KFOR Manoeuvre Forces in several areas of Mitrovica in the vicinity of Austerlitz Bridge.

The KFOR Commander expressed his personal satisfaction for the Kosovo Police professionalism demonstrated in ensuring the necessary security framework to avoid any incidents and for the common sense showed by the population who peacefully left the gathering.
