KFOR STRONGLY CONDEMNS THE VANDALISM AT THE DECANE MONASTERY


October 13, 2014. KFOR Commander, General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, strongly condemns the vandalism which occurred at Decane Monastery yesterday.

General Figliuolo met today with Abbot Sava Janjic and the Mayor of Decane, Mr. Rasim Selmanaj at the Decane Monastery. They expressed their vehement disapproval for the act, assuring that they will continue to strive for interethnic tolerance and coexistence between all religious and ethnic communities; during the visit KFOR Commander assessed the situation at the Decane Monastery and ensured the full support of KFOR to the Kosovo security organizations.

During the visit on the spot Regional Commander of Pec/Peja Kosovo Police, Colonel Shala, stated the investigations on the case are ongoing in close cooperation with the Regional Operational Support Unit.

General Figliuolo added ”this Monastery is a world cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO and I believe that it represents  common values for all the people of Kosovo and everyone should respect it and contribute to preserve it. KFOR will continue to protect this site”.
